ROBERT DEWAR
Boasting an aerospace career of over 30 years with 25 years with Bombardier – Rob has held key positions in engineering and various product development programs; most recently as Vice President, C Series Program.
A long- time aviation enthusiast, Rob graduated from Montreal’s McGill University with a degree in Engineering, specializing in Aerospace Structures and Combustion. A native of Montréal, where he and his family still reside, Rob began his aviation career in 1986 holding key positions over the years in both a product development and sustaining program capacity for major aircraft manufacturers including Airbus, Alenia, and Embraer.
At a cost of $5.0 Billion, Rob was responsible to define, develop, certify and deliver the game-changing C Series aircraft for Bombardier. Today, as the Airbus A 220, it the only new aircraft the overall industry has seen in this market segment for close to thirty years.
Rob joined the C Series aircraft program as Director of Product Definition at the very onset of the program in May 2004. His role was key to ensure all certification and customer requirements were met for this purpose-built for efficiency aircraft.
Over the last six years, Rob has been highly recognized by the industry with several awards, including the James C. Floyd Award, the Aviation Week Laureates Award, The Air Transport World Aviation Achievement Award, the Casi C.D. Howe Award, and a special recognition in 2021 to have JetBlue name its first aircraft the “Rob Dewar” in his honor.
The A220 is today recognized as the leader in its class offering a true wide-body comfort in a single aisle aircraft combined with lowest operating costs: up to -25% fuel burn & CO2 emissions as well as 50% reduced noise foot print and NOx emissions VS previous generation aircraft.
The launch of the C Series was disruptive – dragging the aviation industry towards thinking beyond boundaries and staying ahead of competitors – thus influencing it to drastically improve the economics and environmental benefits of a whole new market segment. The outcome of having brought this brand- new aircraft to life today benefits not only millions of passengers with an improved onboard experience, but also dozens of airlines which have opened new routes that were impossible or unprofitable to operate before.
